The Internship Process

    • Graduate-level student in an accredited program:

      •  Social Work with clinical scope

      • Clinical Mental Health Counseling

    • Previous field experience

      • While the purpose of an internship is to gain experience, this is an advanced level internship that builds upon prior knowledge. This internship focuses on fine-tuning clinical skills and learning the business side of a private practice.

      • Examples of experience that has been beneficial to previous interns: case management, residential support, advocacy, etc.

    • Self-direction

      • This is a private practice setting. Private practices do not have the staff and extra resources that an agency would have. As a result, it's necessary to manage your own schedule and keep track of school assignments.

    • Desire to learn about the world of private practice

      • Private practice clinicians run their own businesses. Because of this, interns will learn how to manage finances, marketing, scheduling, etc. in this setting.

      • Interns are not "assigned" clients; clients decide who they would like to work with, as client empowerment and rapport are the keys to clinical success!

    Required Application Documents:

    • Cover letter

    • Resume or CV

    • Graduate program requirements

    • Courses previous taken and plan to take

    • 3 Professional references

    • Schedule a one-on-one interview with me

      • Remember, this is an opportunity to see if I'm a good supervisor for you!

    • Schedule a group interview

      • After we've met for our initial interview, you'll meet with the rest of my colleagues. I share an office building with several amazing clinicians and it's important to me that you connect with them, as well.

    • What questions will we ask you?

      • What are your career goals?

      • What populations do you enjoy working with?

      • Are there any populations you are not comfortable working with?

      • Why do you prefer working in private practice instead of community mental health?

*The above questions are just examples and we will ask other questions, in addition to those listed.

    • Discuss logistics

      • We will look at your program requirements and how that fits into our work.

      • Together, we will come up with a schedule and "treatment plan" for your internship.

        • Schedule is based on office availability so we require flexibility and collaboration with team members.

      • I will go over contracts with your school.

      • Then we begin our training!

**Please note: I am not accepting applications for internships until Spring 2026.
